We've now been online for over 20 years! And we just passed 100 million games played! Thanks to everyone who has played Javascript Minesweeper, both here and on other sites and apps We've been going strong for 20 years and the game has held up remarkably well. Looking forward to the next 20 years and the next 100 million plays! (For the 1st decade I didn't keep the logs so the 100 million is actually just from the last 10 years) (also I don't have an exact date when I initially published but it was some time in late May 1997) I wrote this in 1997 as a way of learning Javascript, originally for Netscape and IE 4.x.
The standards have moved on since then but with only a few tweaks the game continues to work well in modern browsers. Since then it has been used as the basis for many Minsweeper apps, widgets, and other Minesweeper game sites. If you want to use/redistribute Javascript Minesweeper, that's great, just add a link back to my site. You can download the source code. Contact me to get the latest-and-greatest source code and so I can fix any issues on new platforms. My email is on the About page within the game.
If you are interested in Minesweeper probabilities I wrote a to determine how frequently a beginner board can be solved with a single click. The Minesweeper page does a better job than I of maintaining links to other minesweeper resources. Made an awesome Minesweeper movie. A must see for all serious and bored Minesweeper players.
